Two businesses sharing one room
A pet shop is a feed business and a service business in one room. Feed is bulky, expensive to buy and sold on a few thousand shillings a sack. Grooming and accessories cost almost nothing to hold and carry several times that margin — and the feed is what brings the customer in.
Because it all lands in one till, the two never get separated. The month feels busy, the bank says otherwise, and which side is carrying you is a guess. The shop's real asset — forty customers who buy the same sack monthly — lives in your head.
PesaScope records products and services in one catalogue and one sale, then reports on them separately. Attach the customer and their history sits on their profile, dated.
How a day runs
- Feed and accessories are productsEach sack, tin, collar and bowl has its own cost, price and count. Stock drops when it sells, so shelf and screen agree.
- Grooming is a serviceA wash, clip or nail trim has a standard price and no stock count, and the price can change on the job.
- One sale, both togetherA groom, a sack of food and a new lead go on one sale, so the receipt matches what left the shop.
- Attach the customer every timePick them from the list or add them at the till. That is how you notice a monthly buyer has missed two months.
The list you will set up
Pick "Pet shop" at sign-up and this list is already there. Feed, Accessories and Health for the goods, grooming as a service group.
Keep the 15kg sack and the loose 2kg scoop apart — the margins differ, and one blended line hides which sells.
A month, split down the middle
Feed is 4.6m of the 8m through the till and keeps a quarter of the gross; grooming is a quarter of turnover and keeps just over half. Drop the thin sacks and the grooming table empties.
What PesaScope does not do here
There is no booking calendar. You cannot hold Tuesday at ten for a spaniel, and nothing reminds the owner the morning before. Keep booking in a diary or on WhatsApp; PesaScope records what was done and what was paid.
There is also no record of the animal. PesaScope keeps a customer, not a patient: no pet profile, no breed or weight, no vaccination or treatment history.
What you get instead is the money side straight — the job, the price, who did it, the goods that went with it — and a statement for anyone who asks.
Where the money leaks
- Grooming charged from memoryA standard price on the screen stops the same wash being 40,000 on Monday and 30,000 on Thursday.
- Feed that splits or goes offA torn or expired sack is an adjustment with a reason, not a silent hole.
- Regulars nobody noticed leavingPurchase dates show who came monthly and stopped. That call costs less than any advertising.
- Running out of the one sackSet a low-stock level on the fastest feed line. Someone who drives across town and leaves empty-handed buys elsewhere.

Questions pet shop owners ask
Can I book grooming appointments in it?
No. PesaScope has no appointment calendar and no reminders. Book in your diary or on WhatsApp and record the groom here once it is done.
Can one receipt have a groom and a sack of food?
Yes. Services and products sit in one catalogue and go on one sale, so the customer gets a single total and reports still split them.
Does it keep a record for each pet?
No. The profile belongs to the owner, not the animal — no breed, weight, vaccination or treatment history.
The price depends on the size of the dog. Can I change it?
Yes. A service has a standard price you can adjust on the job, so a large breed is charged properly.
Can I see which regulars have stopped coming?
Their profile lists every purchase with its date, so a monthly buyer who stopped in March is easy to spot.
Can my groomer use it without seeing the profits?
Yes. Staff are added with roles, and an owner controls what each role can see, refund or report on.
